Product description

This quince cheese dip is made from cooked quinces. Quinces have a harsh, sour and astringent taste when raw, but when cooked or baked they transform into a sweet, soft fruit with a rich, aromatic flavor reminiscent of a combination of apple and pear, with floral and honeyed undertones. Their strong aroma, resembling citrus and vanilla, is especially evident during cooking.

Making the jam wells involves more than 130 years of family tradition. We have to go back to 1868 where the company's origins lie. Great-grandfather Theo started an apple syrup factory at the Oosterhout ferry house De Altena, on the Waal, which his son Jan later expanded. In 1883 he also started making jam on a small scale. In 1901, a factory, the Bato, was established in the village center of Oosterhout, where Betuwe fruit was processed into jam and other related products from then on. De Bato closed its gates in 1975, but Theo van Woerkom's blood runs deep and he started the modern-day company in 1984. Since 2001, the family tradition has been continued by Theo's daughter Guusje, who has been working in the company for more than 10 years at that time. Since 2006, the company has returned to the village center of Oosterhout.
