Lees meerA -PURE- breed, that is the Jersey cow. The cow is 100% purebred and that is due to the years-long import ban on the Jersey cow. The roots of the Jersey cow lie on the British island of the same name.
The appearance of the Jersey cow is special. In addition to the striking brown coat, hairy ears and white muzzle, the Jersey cow is a lot smaller than the 'normal' Dutch Holstein-Friesian cow. A cow you want to hug! But that is not the only thing that makes the Jersey cow special. When you meet a Jersey cow, you immediately notice that she is extremely curious. She likes to come to you, looks at you mischievously and shows that she is quite stubborn.
The Jersey cow also produces special milk. The milk from the Jersey cow naturally contains much more protein and fat than the milk from the 'normal' Dutch cow. This creates a unique -PURE- creamy taste. Due to the protein and fat content in the milk, you need less milk to make 1 kilo of cheese. In addition, the Jersey cow eats less, which in turn reduces emissions and residual waste. So good for the environment! Pure Jersey cheese has also officially switched to pasture milk. A wonderful step towards making Pure Jersey cheeses more sustainable.
And you can taste the fact that the cows go outside in the cheese; the taste comes into its own even more. Pasture grazing means that the milk comes from farms where the cows graze in the meadow at least 120 days a year from spring to autumn, for at least 6 hours a day.
Pure Jersey cheese is ALL NATURAL and because the milk contains more protein and fat, less milk is needed to make 1 kilo of cheese.
The Jersey cow itself also has a number of special properties: it eats less, which means less manure is produced, it is strong and less often ill, it produces milk for longer on average than the black and white cow and has a higher efficiency in converting feed to milk.
The cows receive a balanced diet (grass, herbs, flowers and clovers) and our farmers receive a fair price for their milk. Even the sustainable cheese factory in Rouveen contributes.
In addition to cheese made from cow's milk, goat's milk and sheep's milk, there is now also Jersey cheese! A 'special beer' among cheeses, that is the best way to describe Jersey cheese. The cheese is -PURE-, or All natural. This means that nothing goes in or out of the milk before it is processed into Jersey cheese. In addition, vegetarian rennet is used in the preparation, which makes pure Jersey cheese extremely suitable for vegetarians.
