Goat cheese and sheep cheese are a tasty alternative to cow cheese. Not only does it have a different taste, but it also has certain health benefits. At Kaas & Borrelz we think it is important that the taste is always the same, so that you can always enjoy the piece of cheese that you like so much.

What is the difference between cow cheese and goat cheese?

Goat cheese has a distinct flavor that can vary greatly depending on ripening. Our range contains different types of goat cheese, with or without additives.
Goat cheese contains much less lactose and more vitamin A and other minerals.
The structure of the milk fat and protein makes the cheese easier to digest.

What is the difference between goat's cheese and sheep's cheese?

Although goat's cheese and sheep's cheese are very similar, there are some differences. For example, sheep's cheese contains the same fat structure as cow's cheese and is therefore somewhat more difficult to digest. However, this also means that it is a bit richer in taste. So, in terms of digestibility, sheep's cheese is generally somewhere between cow's cheese and goat's cheese.

    Which brands do you use?

We use a number of brands in our range. All brands have been carefully selected and selected for their background, craftsmanship and sustainability.

    • Chevretta goat cheese - Chevretta is the tastiest common Dutch goat cheese. Thanks to a balanced diet of special grass species, linseed and straw, the milk is always of consistently high quality. This makes Chevretta goat cheese very rich in flavor and super creamy.
    • Mekkerstee - The cheese from the Mèkkerstee is very special. This goat cheese is organic, full of flavor and purely natural! A herd of approximately 600 goats grazes at the De Mèkkerstee care farm in Ouddorp. Each goat produces approximately 3 liters of fresh milk every day. This milk is of high quality because the goats receive the best nutrition and care. They also get the space they need.
    • Twisca Sheep Cheese - Twisca is a delicious, tasty North Holland sheep cheese, rich in vitamins. This cheese owes its full, creamy taste to its tall shape (which is very favorable for ripening) but above all to the North Holland meadow where the dairy sheep can graze freely.
      Why is goat cheese white?

Because goats convert beta-carotene into vitamin A more efficiently, goat's milk has a lower beta-carotene content than cow's milk, resulting in whiter milk and therefore whiter cheese. In addition, goat's milk contains smaller fat globules that distribute light differently than those in other types of milk, while this specific milk composition is what gives cheese its white color. Likewise, unlike some cow's milk cheeses, no artificial colorings are added to goat's cheese, preserving its natural white color.

How to buy goat's cheese and sheep's cheese

Goat cheese and sheep cheese are easy. Select the type and quantity and complete the order. After this happens, we cut your cheese fresh and vacuum-pack it. At this point the ripening process stops and fungi do not have a chance to develop. We then ship the cheese (and the rest of the order) the same day.
